Tastes like the best ever after walking up catbells. Took about 3 hours. Crows are fantastic, even the mini dachund enjoyed his walk up. Well worth the effort . Catbells Lakeland Walk: Moderately difficult. I had to stop a few times to catch my breath. Catbells was about an hour or so walk from our guest house. We had a family walk up Cat Bells .We weren’t as early as we had hoped and parking was difficult,but once we were sorted our walk was spectacular all the way..It’s the first climb our grandsons had done in the lakes and now they want to do more,We had to scramble for part of the walk at the summit and would suggest allowing plenty of time for coming down as it’s very steep and slippery.Tho only down side was that people had littered the little car park area with used doggy bags and we would have liked to picnic there. Wet weather can also cause some streams and rivers to become impassable. Sorry but people saying this is an easy walk are misleading. Once you almost reach the summit - suddenly Dewent Water appears and all the effort is worthwhile - a great little summit, This is the version of our website addressed to speakers of English in the United States.

To stand on the shores of Derwentwater and look over to see Catbells and think I have climbed up there is worth every step you have taken to reach the top. We set off from Lingholm, ascended via Hawes End &, before the summit, took the footpath down to Brandelhow Woods and then the Keswick Launch to Nichol End Marina before walking back to Lingholm. Great views for your efforts!!

Practicals: Wear decent footwear/decent clothing. The walk should take around 1-2 hours, and probably won’t take up the whole of the day, and it gives you some extraordinary views over Derwent water and the other mountains. Views from the top are fantastic and worth the effort. Don't get me wrong it's no ice picks and crampons affair, but it's no doddle either.

I think I'd been walking in the Lakes for more than 10 years taking on all the high level summits (Skiddaw, Hellvelyn, etc) before I bothered to climb Catbells - even when climbing Dale Head along the Newlands valley I started from Littletown so never climbed its summit despite being within striking distance.

Sorry but people saying this is an easy walk are misleading. We took the boat across the lake from Keswick to the Hawes End Pier where we took the trail up Catbells. It is the hardest work of the entire walk but its not a long ascent, about 130 metres up in 700 metres of distance.

So its worth taking time to look around at the Newlands valley and to notice the old mine workings up on the right side of the path to take your mind off the climb.

Once we got to the top, we continued down the other side, around the bottom back to the boat launch. read more, If you want a local walk which you can do in a few hours then try catbells then get the boat back to Keswick stop then get a pastie from the traditional pastie shop in town, Catbells is an interesting walk with a bit of a scramble near the top .
